The case of the missing drawer!!!

I had found the most perfect dresser. It was given to me by a friend, who had been after me for about three months to come and pick it up from her garage. My husband and I went and picked it up and I put it in the back of my pick up truck I had to leave it in the back of the truck because I'm having a new deck put on my she shed so here is the dilemma, I had to leave this piece of furniture in the back of my truck, but I still had errands to run.

I had to go to the grocery store, so away I went, with the dresser in the back of the truck. When I got to the grocery store, after driving ever so carefully, I noticed that one of the drawers from the top was missing. Wonderful! Nothing is more frustrating than when you get an awesome dresser, and you lose one of the drawers. I did not want to paint this dresser, or fix it up without having both of the drawers on the top, just because it would look strange, so I drove very carefully all the way back home, looking everywhere that that drawer might have slid out. It was nowhere to be found.

I was so disappointed in myself for allowing this to happen. I know not to put a piece of furniture so that the drawers face the outside of the truck bed. Obviously, this experience has happened before! I did catch it as the drawers were sliding though.

I showed the piece to my daughter and explained that I was going to have to take it to the dump because I couldn't see fixing it up with one drawer missing. She suggested to remove the other drawer on the top and fix it up as an entertainment center. I've done this before, but it takes a lot of work to fix up the inside of a dresser to look like drawers weren't originally supposed to be there.

So almost a week later, which is actually the night

before trash day, my husband and I were coming home from a day at the farm. We drove our normal route. It was dark and I glanced over and noticed a drawer on the top of someone's trash pile.. I thought it was really odd to see a lone drawer and it looked somewhat familiar so after we got home, I ran to the truck to look at what the other drawer looked like and sure enough It was a perfect match.

We hopped back in the car and rushed over and grabbed that drawer right out of the top of their trash, and brought that drawer home, and inserted it into the dresser. Amazing! I had a moment of pure joy and thankfulness!! They must have picked it up and put it in their trash before I returned from the store.

I did call my daughter and said "Guess what I just found!!! I found that missing drawer!!" She was just as shocked as I was that the missing drawer had been found. I am so glad I didn't take it to the dumpster!!

Here are a few photos of the finished piece!!
